How Does the Divesting Strategy Work Within Mission Investing, and How Do We Evaluate Its Success?
DivestInvest is a national movement that has signatories looking at divestment of fossil fuels from their portfolio. There are 64 foundations signed on at the DivestInvest.org website and there are resources about divestment strategies there, as well.
At the same time, it’s just as important, if not more so, to look at opportunities to invest in alternative strategies for energy. There are many people working on this in the field, identifying appropriate investments for this piece of the puzzle.
There are also many investment advisors taking up the challenge to help foundations and other investors find these investments.
As far as return, we bring foundations together around these big investment opportunities and help peer-to-peer networks, as well as working with some agencies to identify some of the investment opportunities that have surfaced.
Other individuals and resource organizations working in this space and on the divestment strategy include Sarah Kearney at the PRIME or PRI Makers Investing in Energy; as well Confluence Philanthropy and the Wallace Global Fund.
