In an era when many Indian tribes have gaming operations and tribal foundations, the needs and giving cultures of native communities are widely misunderstood or not understood at all. Michael Roberts, President of First Nations Development Institute, discusses issues that will be helpful to giving families, among them: How and to what extent to wealthy native donors give to native causes and communities? How effective have the tribal foundations been in meeting the needs of native people and communities that need help? What are the major issues facing native communities and how are family philanthropists addressing them? Joining Roberts will be Malcolm Macleod, President and CEO of the Johnson Scholarship Foundation, who will relate his own experiences of giving in native communities.
